What Aippasi Pournami is known for
On Aippasi Pournami Shiva temples hold the Annabhishekam: the linga is covered completely in cooked rice, and food itself is worshipped as the Lord. People travel from far to see it done to the giant linga of the Brihadeeswarar temple at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, and the rice is then given out to devotees as prasadam.
