An elephant in a dream: what the old books say
Both old books read seeing an elephant in a dream, and riding one, as good by tradition (Kanavu Nool v.1, 5, 20; Kana Nool v.3, 4); only a rutting elephant is read as not favourable, by the Kanavu Nool.
Source: Kanavu Nool, Chennai 1880 (v.1, 2, 5, 20); Kana Nool, Madurai 1903 (v.3, 4, 23). In our own words
These are traditional beliefs from two old printed books, not predictions. The books sometimes give harsher readings than these, and we do not reproduce them. "Not favourable" here means only that tradition reads a minor setback.
What the books say
Beside each line is the book, verse (v.) and page (p.): 1880 is the Kanavu Nool, 1903 the Kana Nool. Both labels together mean both books say it.
- Good by tradition Seeing an elephant: Wealth, a flourishing family, troubles ease 1880 v.1, p.2 · 1880 v.20, p.6 · 1903 v.3, p.3
- Good by tradition Riding an elephant: Gains come, and wealth 1880 v.5, p.3 · 1880 v.20, p.6 · 1903 v.4, p.3
- Good by tradition The elephant is an exception to the "black things are not favourable" rule: The elephant still reads well 1903 v.23, p.6
- Not favourable Seeing an elephant in rut: Tradition reads a minor setback 1880 v.2, p.2
What the books leave out
Neither book has an elephant chasing, trampling or trumpeting, entering the house, or a baby elephant. Apart from the rutting elephant, no elephant scene is read as not favourable, and we do not give a reading the books do not.

What does it mean if an elephant chases you in a dream?
Neither book has a single line on being chased or trampled. We do not give a reading for a dream the books do not mention.
