  Sadguru Gnanananda Giri settled on the north bank of the South Pennar in 1951, and this ashram grew around him. His samadhi, from 1974, is here.

• Sri Gnanananda Niketan

  Thapovanam, near Tirukoilur · Advaita Vedanta

  A trust set up by devotees of Gnanananda in 1986. It offers Vedanta classes, residence and a library for renunciates who follow the path of self-enquiry.

• Dress simply; keep silence in meditation halls and ask before taking photos.
• Many visit and offer annadhanam on Amavasai and Pournami.
