Working memory is small

People can hold roughly four meaningful items in mind at once. A panchangam screen that lists thirty values makes the reader search. The first screen of the app therefore holds one answer, whether the present time is good or best avoided, with sunrise, thithi and nakshatram close by. Everything else is one scroll down, in a fixed order that becomes familiar within a week.

Fluent reading feels trustworthy

When text is easy to process, readers judge it as clearer and more credible. Tamil leads every line in the language most users think in; English sits below, smaller, for those who want it. Times always use digits, tabular numerals and a day-part word, so a glance is enough.

Framing changes how a fact feels

The same information, framed as a loss, draws a stronger response than when framed neutrally. Many almanac apps call periods bad or dangerous and pair them with red warnings. Here the tradition's own advice is used: avoid starting new work, and what the time is suited for. Hatching and a word carry the meaning, so colour never has to alarm.

Notifications fragment attention

In a controlled study, simply receiving a phone notification, without looking at it, measurably worsened performance on an attention task. The app sends no promotional notifications, has no streaks and never asks for a rating. The only message it sends is a reminder someone set themselves, written as a plan: the day, the window, the city.

Colour as a cue for time

The masthead follows the sky: coral at dawn, orange by day, pink at dusk, purple at night. It is a simple orientation cue, recognised faster than reading a clock, and it makes each visit feel connected to the actual hour outside.
